Why you are interested in serving on the Board of Directors?

"I am interested in serving on the Chamber Board of Directors for a couple different reasons. It will allow me to continue to serve the communities of Tecumseh and Shawnee and to develop long lasting relationships to help create impact for both communities. It will also help me to increase my business knowledge of the surrounding communities so I am better able to serve those around me."


Now tell the membership a bit about you. Share your background, interests, hobbies, and other fun information.

Mike Jobe has been a YMCA professional for over 25 years, progressing in job responsibility in each of the 3 YMCA Associations that he has worked. Beginning his Y career as a Sports/Aquatics Director to Vice President of Operations, Mike has a proven track record of identifying and cultivating key external and internal relationships to maximize organizational growth by inspiring teams to reach their full potential and leads with the end result in mind. Developing efficiencies in the areas of operational management, budgeting, fundraising, board and staff development and strategic planning has been the highlights of his career. Mike began his YMCA career at the Midwest City YMCA as a Sports/Aquatics Director. Seeing a need in T-Ball and Roller hockey, Mike began these programs from scratch and 1st year had more than 200 kids participate.

In 1998, as the Executive Director, Mike led the city-wide sports team in developing a parents meeting model that provided communication and insight for parents and coaches on the expectations of the upcoming basketball season. The first year was a huge success, hosting more than 3500 parents. The Wichita YMCA came calling in 2001 and Mike became the Executive Director of the South YMCA Campus. A full facility YMCA, outdoor waterpark and a sports center were his areas of responsibility. After making revision to rules and guidelines, the sports center went from 2500 children per year to 4800 children in one year. Developing relationships with local soccer leaders and community supporters, Mike became instrumental in building an indoor soccer complex on the YMCA campus. Mike was also influential in leading the city-wide effort to bring the bowl a thon special event from inception to a $350,000 event. Mike moved to Dallas, TX in 2014 to become the Vice President of Operations for the Dallas YMCA. Responsible for 4 facility YMCA’s, Mike oversaw 3 executive directors and approximately 300 total employees. Restructuring the Board to better represent the community and collaborating with the local school district and civic groups, and hiring intentionally allowed Mike the opportunity to provide membership and programs that reflected the community at large. Membership numbers increased 40% and retention increased 8% during his tenure in Dallas. Mike is a native Oklahoman who graduated from Midwest City High School and the University of Central Oklahoma. As a graduate of both Leadership Midwest City and Leadership Plano, as well as serving on the board of the Plano Rotary Club has allowed me to build strong relationships, both professionally and personally throughout my career. Mike has been involved in sports his entire life, from playing to coaching and now spectating. During free time, Mike enjoys working out, reading John Grisham books and traveling. Being a father of 2 has been the greatest experience of his life and continues to be a role model for both.
