Current Year's Nominees

Troy Officer

Why you are interested in serving on the Board of Directors?

"One of the main benefits that I believe I can offer to your Board is someone who is passionate about what I am involved in. I also believe I have the ability to bridge gaps between different professional groups. From when I first arrived in Shawnee, I noticed there was always an apparent gap between the OBU community and the rest of Shawnee.. By working at the YMCA, I was able to go further than most OBU students in their view of the Shawnee/Tecumseh community. Through this time, I was also able to establish great relationships with non-profit leaders in the community, as well as school leader, such as Robert Kinsey, who participated in our swim lessons and swim team programs at the YMCA. Now, as a leader in the legal community, I have also been able to bridge the gap and develop relationships with the city and district judges, representatives for our community, legal professionals, and other community leaders. One of these being a great intern partnership with Tecumseh school, where I have a student interning with me this school year. With this being said, I do believe I have a unique spot in the community, as someone who has worked with a wide-array of different professions and leaders, that allows me to fully understand what is needed in our community. Along with this, I do believe that my legal expertise is a great benefit to a board. I have had the pleasure of working with City and District Judges, working with the Juvenile Center in Tecumseh, and other legal professionals. I do believe that legal expertise is necessary for a board to operate. From reviewing and revising bylaws, to knowing city ordinances and laws, and then general awareness of contract terms, I believe this knowledge would be helpful to any board. Finally, at 26 years old, I do believe I offer a passionate and compassionate voice that I hope can assist in reflecting the views of the community as a whole."

Now tell the membership a bit about you. Share your background, interests, hobbies, and other fun information.

I was born and raised in Edmond, Oklahoma. I moved to Shawnee in 2014 to attend Oklahoma Baptist University, where I graduated with Honors. I graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Biochemistry and a minor in Political Science. While at Oklahoma Baptist, I was blessed with the opportunity to serve the community through the Honors Programs devoting over one hundred hours of community service through Community Renewal of Pottawatomie County, Gateway to Prevention and Recovery, and the Salvation Army. During my time at Oklahoma Baptist, I also held a full-time position at the Shawnee YMCA as the Aquatics Director. My four years at the Shawnee YMCA allowed me to bridge the gap between being an OBU student and being a resident of Shawnee. I was able to build relationships with community members and establish the Shawnee area as my home. After I graduated, I attended law school at Baylor University Law School. I was able to serve at Baylor by interning at the free immigration legal clinic, as well as at the Baylor Scott and White Hospital Team. After I finished my school at Baylor, I came back to Shawnee to intern with a law office in town. Upon receiving a portion of the public defender contract in Pottawatomie County, I decided to open my own firm five months ago, where I currently practice. Outside of work, I enjoy working out at the Shawnee YMCA. I enjoy playing volleyball in the community with friends and other community members. And I enjoy hanging out with my two month old border collie puppy!
